House Speaker Mike Johnson distanced himself from demands to get rid of the filibuster, warning it could backfire if Democrats took back Senate control.

In a pair of late-night posts, Trump told Senate Republicans to use the "nuclear option" to eliminate the 60-vote threshold and pass a government funding bill without Democrats.

Trump’s ask comes after U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) asked Senate Republicans to eliminate the filibuster. She applauded Trump’s sudden directive, writing in a post that “This is what I called for from the very beginning.”
